AboutKinderflute group classes are your student's first introduction to the flute. Classes are held weekly in a group setting in 8 week sessions. At the end of 4 sessions students will have completed their Flute Zoo Book 1 and be ready to transition into private lessons and monthly kinderflute group classes.
ClassesFor the first Fall Session 2024, classes will be held on Tuesday evening at 6pm and Saturday mornings at 10am. The session runs from the week of August 20th through the week of October 8th.
8 week sessions typically begin in August, October, January and March. Summer classes may be held based on interest and availability. Kinderflute classes should be attended by both the student and a caregiver who can help them complete practice assignments at home. Adults are not required to have a musical background; attending the classes with your student should be enough to be able to help them practice at home. |
CostEach 8 week session costs $160 divided into two payments of $80.

Nicole is incredible! My 7 year old daughter loves working with her. She has an amazing way of teaching young students correctly right from the beginning. She has such a fun enthusiasm for the flute which is contagious. Never a wasted moment in the lessons. Nicole is very professional and truly cares about helping her students succeed!

Private Kinderflute LessonsKinderflute students meet weekly for private lessons. In lessons we use games and fun activities to work through our weekly flute assignments.
Young students start lessons using the Kinderflute books: Flute Zoo 1, 2 & 3. |
Group ClassesGroup classes are held monthly. In group class we play group games that focus on note reading, musicality, and flute development. Group classes are the first experience your student will have with playing flute with others, which is a huge part of the fun of playing music!

Why Little Flute Classes? As a parent, I have watched my children try different activities and some have stuck and others haven't. Little Flute classes are an engaging and fun way to try out flute and give your student general music skills while letting them figure out if flute is something they want to pursue.
I have worked hard to reduce the cost per class for families, and to also reduce the materials cost. There is nothing more frustrating than buying all the gear for your kids activity only to have them decide they want to quit at the end of the season or class. Where do I buy a flute?Little Flute classes start on just a flute headjoint, which I provide. When your student transitions into the second 8 week course, I typically recommend buying a Nuvo J Flute. They are about $130 and very sturdy for young beginners. This instrument typically lasts a student for their first 1-3 years of playing, at which point we discuss upgrade options to a more standard instrument.

Can my 5-8 year old just start in regular lessons?Absolutely! Some students prefer a one on one setting, or want to move faster (or slower) than the group classes. Students who choose to begin private kinderflute lessons from the beginning are subject to my standard studio policies and pricing. Group class availability for initial private lesson students may be limited until they reach a level to join the kinderflute students who have already been studying for a year.
Why work with a Certified Kinderflute Teacher? Kinderflute certification involves training to work specifically with young flutists. Many flute teachers started playing flute in middle school, and are less comfortable teaching elementary age students. Kinderflute certification helps a teacher hone their skills working with the youngest beginners on the flute.
I am the only Kinderflute Certified teacher in the greater Austin area. |
